Emerging Leader Workshop Series Faculty

Stephen C. Alder, PhD

Stephen C. Alder, Ph.D. currently serves as chief of the Division of Public Health. He is an associate professor of Family and Preventive Medicine and holds adjunct appointments at the University of Utah in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Health Promotion and Education.

Dr. Shira Shafir joined the faculty of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health's Department of Epidemiology in 2007 after completing a post-doctoral fellowship in Global Health at UCLA. She teaches courses in introduction to epidemiology, neglected tropical diseases, principles of control of infectious diseases, epidemiology of foodborne disease and responsible conduct of research in global health and was voted Professor of the Year by the Public Health Students Association in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Sandra Marsh has worked for many years in the mental health field with behavior-disordered children prior to coming to the University of Utah in 1990. She currently is Associate Director for the Utah Area Health Education (AHEC) Program.

Richard J. Jackson, MD, MPH

Richard J Jackson is Professor and Chair of Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Mike Prelip is a professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He is currently involved in a number of community-based research projects that use the community participatory model, and conducts his work in both domestic and international settings.

Kimberley I. Shoaf, DrPH

Dr. Shoaf is the Director of the Southwest Regional Public Health Training Center, Associate Director of the UCLA Center for Public Health and Disasters, and an Associate Professor in Residence in the Department of Community Health Sciences in the UCLA School of Public Health.

Jim VanDerslice is the Associate Chief of the Division of Public Health at the University of Utah, and Associate Director of the Office of Public Health Workforce Excellence.

Hilary Godwin joined the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health faculty in 2006 and is currently a Professor in the Environmental Health Sciences Department and the Institute of the Environment and Sustainabillity.

David Sundwall, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Public Health at the University of Utah - School of Medicine, Division of Public Health, where he has been a faculty member since 1978. He served as Executive Director of theUtah Department of Health and Commissioner of Health for the State ofUtah, from 2005 through 2010.
